It’s hard to form too strong an opinion about this limestone house at 273 Brooklyn Avenue given the lack of interior photos (or at least of ones that show much). Clearly the exterior is very attractive (except for those little awnings!) and there appears to be quite a lot of interior detail. Given that the same family has lived there for 40 years, it would not be surprising if much original detail were in place. And at 4,640 square feet, this is not a small house. Still, the asking price of $899,000 is optimistic in this market environment.

  1. We might be interested in renting it then in May or so, if we can bring our own washing machine and put up crazy patchwork vintage wallpaper all over the place… eh… keep me posted about other stuff in the building selling. Sadly maybe not for the crazy low price you paid, but still. Those are epic apartments.

  2. M4L- you can’t sell it- MM and I haven’t finished decorating it yet :). However- if you buy the St. Mark’s Place, you can expect us to show up on your doorstep frequently. Very frequently.

  3. textpert, no way it’s 2x. on flrs where it’s simply a bedrm’s etc, you’re not going to spend that much. not every bathrm has to be ensuite quality. trick out 1 kitchen, master bath, guest bath and rest can be OK quality.

if st marks is not sold, I would seriously consider buying it for 700k and live on the top 3 flrs – rent out both 2 flrs as duplex

  4. M4L, the St. Marks house is HUGE! It would probably be 2x in reno costs. The house is 60′ deep and lot is 150′ deep.

This house lot is only 95′ deep, don’t know about the house and it’s only 3 stories where St. Marks is 5 stories.

  5. ET…garden level of St Marks is an apartment…it needs to be gutted

St Marks need all new heating, plumbing and most of the electric

It’s a much bigger house so the cost of all of that will be astronomical.
