House of the Day: 128 Washington Avenue
This should qualify as an “Under the Radar” listing, don’t you think? It’s hard to imagine that this place is getting a whole lot of exposure (or maybe the owner’s knew that we’d cycle by and be unable to resist the luddite charm of their handwritten for sale sign). All we know about the house…

This should qualify as an “Under the Radar” listing, don’t you think? It’s hard to imagine that this place is getting a whole lot of exposure (or maybe the owner’s knew that we’d cycle by and be unable to resist the luddite charm of their handwritten for sale sign). All we know about the house is what’s on Property Shark. With a footprint of 16.67-by-30 feet and only three stories high, it ain’t big. We’ve got no idea what the interior is like, but that front door doesn’t suggest an owner who’s overly obsessed with historic detail. The number in the window is 347-583-4973. Let us know if you find out the price.

uh I wouldn’t want to live across the street from an outdoor hockey rink either.
This is hilarious. Y’know, both could be true. The basketball comment could be an expression of the always bubbling racial anxiety to be found here AND it could suck to have a court across the street from your home. I had a girlfriend once whose apt. overlooked a basketball court and the noise was pretty dreadful and most of the kids were white.
In any event I deeply appreciate the efforts to discuss complex racial matters in the form of anonymous two-sentence blog comments. It reflects the deepest sort of commitment to social justice.

i usually hate the racial assumptions on this board, but i have to agree about the “basketball courts” comment above.
HOWEVER: don’t worry about the basketball courts.
once the neighborhood gets fully gentrified more they will convert them to tennis courts or a golf course or a croquet field or something appropriately caucasian and affluent.
9:23……how are you affording to live in this area? Daddy paid the rent for you again huh? Nah that isnt it, cuz daddy is sick of paying your bills. So you must have 4 roommates. AS for the park bench, you’ve probably run into it many times while on your little skateboard.Get off that for an hour and do something productive, like getting a job instead of living off your parents or sharing an apt with soo many people. Stop taking daddys hard earned money and putting it up your nose…cokehead.ANd as for shooting hoops, you need to watch and learn cause you cant jump…did your probation officer tell you that panhandling didnt count? you pathetic sorry ass
FWIW, I’ve lived in Clinton Hill directly next to basketball courts for the past 5 years. I’ve never complained about them or done anything but say “hello” or be friendly to the kids in them. But I can confirm firsthand that there’s loud yelling and the thumping of basketballs sometimes all the way up until 4 or 5 am. There’s also a ton of littering (most of which ends up on my stoop or scattered loosely on the ground around my trash cans). Kids set off fire crackers and bottle rockets all summer long into the wee hours of the morning and also break bottles for the hell of it. Just last night I saw a girl pee there. I’ve also seen prostitutes perform sex acts on the courts at night, among other things. Do I think it’s great to have public basketball courts? Sure, absolutely. Would I sell the house because of them? No. But if you think all the above doesn’t negatively effect the price you can get for a property… you would be mistaken. Race, gentrification and whatever all else have nothing to do with it. It’s a simple question of whether a house that comes with the above-described activities built-in next door is worth the same as a house that does not come with them.
Is Brownstoner back from vaca? And where do homeless people go online? Just curious…
10:00 I agree but I think people here are largely trolling, venting, etc. Actually, I think it’s quite likely there are one or two people who just the most over the top messages. And, honestly, I think it’s mostly white people trying to drum up hatred. Anyway, I wish BS would act on it but on the other hand, he can’t spend all his time policing the comments . . .
i’m more intrigued how 9:23 can be so ignorant to be ranting to a guy he thinks is homeless.
i’ve always wondered how many homeless people were on this blog every day.
THAT’S why there’s so many nutty comments!!
damn homeless.
(i’m being sarcastic, obviously)
8:26 drink yourself into a stupor? yeah, so so sorry alcohol isn’t as good as crack . . . “get a clue”??? please you need a more accurate handle like “get a life”, or how about–gasp!!–“get a job”. maybe you should shut down your computer and get a job so you can help all of the women (or men!!) you’ve screwed to get off welfare. or you could just go shoot some hoops on wash.
