We’re liking the looks of this limestone house at 421 74th Street in Bay Ridge. There’s lots of original detail, a renovated kitchen and an attractive backyard and deck. The price of $795,000 seems pretty reasonably too, especially when you consider that it traded for $725,000 in 2004. Thoughts?

so let me guess, you just moved in and want everyone who does not believe in your politics and way of life to get the hell out, right? typical..

  2. Yes the commute is the trade off. But when faced with either have to leave Brooklyn for the burbs to own a home, we thought it was a good trade off. And since we moved my husband was transfered downtown, making his commute only a 1/2 hour.

  3. The commute is a trade-off. One of the reasons the homes are priced “reasonably” is because the neighborhood is a bit further than Park Slope, Cobble Hill etc. I think that Bay Ridge is the last Brooklyn area where you can buy a non- fixer upper limestone/brownstone for under a million. And many of these houses have gorgeous detail along with yards.

  4. those figures sound much better, thanks all for your input.

interesting point about upcoming reduction in jumbo loan limits – I would speculate this may not only impact accessibility, but reduce value after that date. I still may take a look, this type of space sure beats what the same money will buy in “New Brooklyn.” And Bay Ridge seems quite nice to me, lots of great restaurants, better food shopping than up here (Boerum Hill), lower prices of goods of services – lots to commend it.
