Ditmas Park’s star has certainly been on the rise in the last five years but have property prices doubled in that time period? We’re about to find out! This charming Victorian house at 711 East 18th Street sold for $705,000 in early 2006 (after making an early appearance as an Open House Pick in late 2005). It’s now on the market for $1,425,000. To be fair, it’s not a totally apples-to-apples price comparison, as some significant improvements (most notable in the kitchen) have been made to the house, which had lots of historic charm to begin with. Predictions?

  1. “I know that re taxes are higher in the burbs, but if you have a few kids in school it more than pays for itself”

Actually by not paying NYC income tax you’re already offsetting a large part if not all of the RE Taxes.

  2. there really is no name for a fairly ordinary American house like this. You can call it “Edwardian” but that seems a bit pretentious, “American four square” except it isn’t a square. “Art and Crafts” although not really. It is a vernacular, early 20th century American suburban house.

  3. In the past, Fiske Terrace was always considered to be the area between Ocean Avenue to the subway cut and Foster Avenue to Avenue H.

Ditmas Park started at Newkirk Avenue/Coney Island Avenue to Ocean.

The blocks between Newkirk and Foster were always sort of a no man’sland but I guess they are now considered part of Ditmas Park.

According to Realtors, these days it seems DP now extends from Bedford Avenue to Coney Island Avenue & between Avenue H and Prospect Park.
