House of the Day: 279 Park Place
It’s hard to find anything wrong with this new listing at 279 Park Place. The Prospect Heights brownstone has gorgeous period detail and has been tastefully updated where it counts (like the kitchen). Add to that the fact that the house sits on one of those sweet 131-feet-deep lots and it’s hard to see this…

and my really dream home comes with central air already in, and a bigger deck.
I could also see opening up that parlor floor wall a bit more to give some width.
And it is a shame one of the original stained glass windows in the front is gone.
I could be sold on the pictures alone…now there’s that pesky bit about obtaining the funds…
Yes, skinny, and I like a dining room. But I’d be tempted to put my formal dining table in that skinny living room, and use the wider upstairs room as my living room, not the master bedroom, since I like my bedroom to be in the back anyway, and hey, there’s another whole floor of bedrooms, so mine would be on the top floor, where the laundry is, of course. Back bedroom on 3rd floor could be either my office or guest room. Dream on…
Mopar, $800k diff btwn this one and the cotd yesterday
Well, this seems like the better deal compared to the nearly identical one-bed apt version yesterday.
I love this house!!! Mr. Gordenstein it was built in 1898 by William Reynolds.
15×40 always seems dark to me. Throw in that extra flight of stairs to trudge up and I’ll take the 20×40. I’m with Maly about the stairs eating up space as well. Once you figure those in, you’re looking at a 12 foot wide living room assuming you don’t have the hallway. If that’s there then you’re looking at 8, 9 feet? Pretty narrow.
I am with Arkady — it really depends on how many normal sized BR’s you want.
I do love this house as well, not as much as the Midwood Street House in PLG from yesterday. The one deal breaker for me is not having the formal dining room. I’m not crazy about that kitchen in what used to be the formal dining room renovation that happened when these houses went from 1 family to 2. I prefer the kitchen in the extension so you can still have the formal dining room. That being said, you wouldn’t have to twist my arm to much to live here. Nice location, near all the new ice cream shops on Vanderbilt.
