House of the Day: Park Living at a Discount
What’s up with this place? Doesn’t $1.6 million for a 4-story brownstone on the Fort Greene Park seem suspiciously cheap. We can only assume that it’s right off Myrtle Avenue. Still, compared to yesterday’s $1.69 million listing on South 1st Street in Williamsburg, this looks mighty good. But then again, maybe we’re being blinded by…

But then again, maybe we’re being blinded by our glaring Fort Greene/Clinton Hill bias. Somebody give us a reality check!
Townhouse on Fort Greene Park [Aguayo & Huebener]
2.4 seems insane, but Vinegar Hill is always crazy expensive. It’s extremely quaint and near the water, but I wouldn’t want to live in such a remote area–with a power plant next door no less.
this that is…..

I heard that Keyspan owned those projects and that they are slowly emptying them out (e.g. not filling apartments once the tenants leave). They are supposedly at 50% capacity already.
Is this true? wish I knew how to find out…
Realtors often tell customers that the projects near the house they are trying to sell have been secretly sold to private developers. It is never true. Can you imagine the uproar if they were trying to evict all of the families who live in those projects? The people living there, who pay $300/mo would fight tooth-and-nail. It will never happen.
Don’t be fooled by a brokers who make this claim. Even if you heard it from someone else, it is likely that the story originated from some broker who was trying to make the sale.
I used to live in an apartment 2 doors down from there. My bedoom was in the front. I used to be woken up by gunshots on a regular basis. Sometimes right outside the door.
has anyone heard rumor that the projects in fort greene have been sold to a private developer? i keep hearing this, has anyone else heard this as well?
The house is on Washington Park right near the corner of Myrtle. Right across the street on Myrtle are huge projects. The residents of these housing projects use the corner of Washington Park and Myrtle as a huge evening hang-out on many evenings in the weekend that can go very late. This is not a house you would want to raise children in.
I think this is up by myrtle, the building next to is has a big Grand Theft Auto mural.
maybe b/c it’s only a 1 family? everything i’ve seen on washington park listed higher has been a 2 family or more.
