We don’t know from Bay Ridge but this listing piqued our interest. It’s rare in other parts of brownstone Brooklyn to find this kind of architectural uniformity (South Portland in Fort Greene comes to mind) in such well-preserved condition. And while we could do without some of the stained glass and frilly design touches, the house looks to be in excellent shape. Maybe we haven’t been paying close enough attention but we thought these three-story houses in Bay Ridge and Sunset Park were supposed to still be in the $800,000 to $850,000 range? Has the market moved on us or are we just clueless?

  1. Having just bought in the area, I am glad to see prices coming up around $1mm for this kind of brownstone- especially in that part of Bay Ridge. Wish more of the buildings had been so “lovingly restored”- would make it more appealing to people from other neighborhoods Didn’t see a reference for Owls Head Park on the listing- which has a lot of great features.

  2. “Kudos for finding interesting HOTD’s in different places lately. I enjoy getting to look at different sections of Brooklyn.”

Ditto. I agree and love perusing this site and reading your comments. My vicarious joy since I live in “no soul” Old Mill Basin(OMB). LOL

It’s nice to see you give a peek into the other nabes.

  3. Bay Ridge and Sunset Park are different. Sunset Park is under $1MM, Bay Ridge often over.

Regarding uniformity, there are many blocks outside of Fort Green and Clinton Hill that are uniform. Most neighborhoods have several.

  4. Yeah, my house abuts the back of the brownstones on 68th. There are brownstones on either side, except for the corners on the avenue. The brownstones are an anomaly in the immediate neighborhood, probably why the block is landmarked.

There is actually superb access to both the subway (69th/4th) and the bus (on 3rd), plus the Belt/Gowanus.

  5. it is Senator. There are more brownstones on the other side of the street. The brownstones are beautiful on this block. On the next block on 4th there is a welfare building on one side and a High School on the other

  6. Mr. B – the stained glass is gorgeous! I agree the decor is a bit much, but that’s irrelevant, in the long run, it’ll be empty.

I don’t know much about Bay Ridge either, I didn’t even know they had brownstones, but this one is a period goodie. It’s really rare to see that much period detail in pristine condition. I’m betting it won’t be on the market that long. I do know BR is a very stable community that has always had its attraction, so I think they will get their price.

Kudos for finding interesting HOTD’s in different places lately. I enjoy getting to look at different sections of Brooklyn.

  7. It may be Senator Street between 3rd and 4th. I live on the next block, and I know that the block is landmarked….and the only example of brownstones like those I can think of in the nabe.
