House of the Day: Bay Ridge Special

We don’t know from Bay Ridge but this listing piqued our interest. It’s rare in other parts of brownstone Brooklyn to find this kind of architectural uniformity (South Portland in Fort Greene comes to mind) in such well-preserved condition. And while we could do without some of the stained glass and frilly design touches, the house looks to be in excellent shape. Maybe we haven’t been paying close enough attention but we thought these three-story houses in Bay Ridge and Sunset Park were supposed to still be in the $800,000 to $850,000 range? Has the market moved on us or are we just clueless?
Listing #20148 [CBHK]
This is 238 Ovington Ave. I did a drive by about 10 days ago and like i said before the apartment buildings on the other side of the street are a big turn off imho.
In many countries, mother tie their babies in a cloth sling and carry them.
And I still don’t understand why people have those behemoth strollers on the subway? It’s got to be harder to truck them up and down subway stairs then to carry the kid in a snuggly or back pack type carrier.
The Orthodox Jewish women seem to be able to get their 1/2 dozen to dozen children on the subway on a regular basis, so having allot of kids does not preclude you from riding the subway.
FYI: the driveway and 2 car garage at my place is empty, as I take the subway and mass transit just about everywhere.
I love the “I’m not taking my babies on the subway” argument.
As if you are such a caring parent that you couldn’t possibly subject your precious brood to the horrors of the big bad stinking subway. This opton has become so unthinkable that you can justify virtually any lapse.
“I’m not putting my babies in that car” lets you buy an SUV.
“I’m not sending my babies to school with those kids” lets you lie about your address.
“I’m not letting my babies read that kind of book” lets you ban books from the school library.
gee! one can’t ask a simple question on this site. Frankly, I grew up in Brooklyn, never had a car or a drivers license for that matter. I always believed in public transportation. Times change however, I now do have two babies and it is becoming increasingly difficult to get us all where we need to be safely. In that part of Brooklyn, as in many parts of the city a car is a necessity sorry I’m not taking my babies on the subway. If the city perhaps provided us with the ability to get strollers on and off subway platforms and on to busses safely that would be a feasible alternative. And please refrain from commenting about how my stroller is a menace to society running over little old ladies and the like. By the way we walk 90% of the time…my conscience is clean.
Couldn’t resist that one…
Yes, this is a LOVELY block. It reminds me of Maple Street (in PLG) except the houses are white limestone instead of brown. I’ll have to send a photo of that block so that Mr. Brownstoner can ad it to his media collection.
You asked for it: you’re just clueless.
sunset park is a better investment than most areas right now if you are looking for price appreciation on your money
As a card carrying Transportation Alternatives member, it’s my responsibility to call you names for prioritizing parking in your New York City house search.
Cars are bad for this city in a gazillion ways and unless you are disabled, there are tons of alternatives. I know you have a demanding job, small children and enough disposable income, but that’s no excuse for imposing congestion, pollution and pedestrian/cyclist injuries on your fellow citizens.
Sorry, it’s my duty.
the area near owls head park has lots of beautiful town homes , and lovely limestones… a large portion of Senator street is on the national registry (although not land marked) I have been watching the prices go up the last six months..
Unfortunately we haven’t found anything really nice on the market with a driveway or garage. If anyone lives in the area I would love to know about the parking situation.
