House of the Day: 118 South Elliott Place
This one seems to be a pretty solid listing: Nice 4-story brick in central Fort Greene asking just under $1.7 million. The parlor floor looks great and it appears that the kitchen has a deck off it, in addition to the standard yard. And the price seems about right, too, especially given the fact that…

This one seems to be a pretty solid listing: Nice 4-story brick in central Fort Greene asking just under $1.7 million. The parlor floor looks great and it appears that the kitchen has a deck off it, in addition to the standard yard. And the price seems about right, too, especially given the fact that there’s $3,500-$4,000 of rental income from the top two units. If we had to nitpick, we’d only point out how cramped and oddly built-out the rentals look. But, given the location, we doubt finding tenants will be a problem. We bet this sells for $1.65 within a couple of weeks.

You guys are probably right, although they might talk like that under the cover of anonymity. Her point about us pushing the prices up might be well taken. Better I think, to discuss here what might be wrong with houses that the brokers aren’t telling us so that we can better understand and share info about what homes are really worth.
Right? She sounds like Cruella DeVille. Real people don’t talk like that.
A professional in any field who provides a viable and valuable service wouldn’t need to resort to silly-sounding threats to preserve her share of the market.
I think this “Barbara” might be a JTLeroy– a pseudo-Corocoran. Would a real real-estate broker get so incredibly nasty in such a cliche way? Methinks maybe not.
Who do I work for? Better to ask who works for me! You have no idea who you are toying with!
Barbara, are you an arsonist as well as a real estate agent?
I’m sorry I mentioned the FSBO idea to begin with, considering the buttons it has clearly pushed, but I do hope it comes true. My only fear: Brownstoner will be pushier than ever with certain favorite neighbs. Please don’t change, Brownstoner, be fair to all the areas, even those not selling houses by the dozen!
Nice, Barbara…why don’t you tell us what company you work for and we “ants” will use our “little posts” to organize a boycott of said company. How does that sound?
Barbara, you are paranoid. And for very good reason. THere was an article published recently, (in the Times? can’t remember) about the paranoia of agents with respect to the internet making them obsolete.
I understand your fears. It sucks to be at the aging end of an industry; but perhaps you too can benefit, by finding a new way to work in real estate?
