Taking up two floors of an early 20th century row house in Crown Heights, this rental has a bit of period character, a renovated kitchen, and three bedrooms. Other perks for the price include in-unit laundry and some outdoor space.

In the Crown Heights North III Historic District, the Renaissance Revival style house at 1439 Dean Street is one of a row of five built by Henry L. Spicer for owner Benjamin C. Raymond, according to the designation report. It was constructed as a two-family and the newly completed dwelling was advertised in 1902 as “up-to-date” with a white stone facade and rounded front bay.

It is still set up as a two-family, with a garden apartment below this duplex. The main level has a parlor with pier mirror at front, a middle parlor, and a dining area with a mantel at the rear.

The woodwork has been painted white throughout the unit, and a modern kitchen was inserted into the dining area. That kitchen has a generous amount of cabinetry, a dishwasher, and a panel-fronted refrigerator. Steps lead up to a door that opens out onto a private deck.

Upstairs are three bedrooms; none are shown in the photos, but the listing notes the largest bedroom has a walk-in closet. There are two full baths, one per floor, and laundry is on the second floor.

Accessible via the deck is the rear yard — presumably shared space, although the listing doesn’t specify.

Listed with Orrie King of Compass, the unit is priced at $5,500 a month. What do you think?
