The two-bedroom FSBO at 245 Henry Street isn’t the fanciest apartment in the neighborhood but it does look like a very sensible, well-laid-out apartment for a young couple early on in the breeding process. Maintenance of $1,204 looks a bit high for only a part-time doorman, but the asking price of $689,000 is about as low as you can expect to find for an apartment of this size in this part of town.

  1. BSD – That’s been pointed out many times, about it not all being about kids, that some people (even single buyers!) sometimes have offices, guest rooms, rooms for whatever they want to do in them. Yet the blog author and others still make these comments. But the comments aren’t going away because the underlying message isn’t – which is that the rest of you who aren’t living the het+kids life aren’t worth mentioning. There’s a kind of self-absorption which prevents some people from seeing that others whose lives aren’t exactly like theirs exist. Just as well, as they often go so far as to find anyone else threatening to their fragile selves. Not to be overly dramatic about it, but this is the attitude that explains why we have things like the Defense of Marriage Act to contend with.

  2. It’s got a sensible layout and lots of closet space and it’s a convenient location in the neighborhood. Doesn’t set my soul on fire with real-estate lust (central A/C and a W/D hookup would make me flutter a little more), and it seems slightly pricey for its size/amenities, but I like it in a utilitarian way.
