We’re definitely liking the feel of this two-bedroom apartment in a subdivided brownstone at 8 South Oxford Street. The recent renovation of the floor-through Fort Greene co-op successfully navigated the waters between traditional and modern, preserving key original details while lightening the mood with some updated features like a new kitchen and built-in shelving. The maintenance for the walk-up unit is $680 a month and the asking price is $685,000. There’s an open house on Sunday from 12-2 if you want to take a look.

  1. Very attractive space, but my first response to the floorplan was also to wonder about the small amount of closet space. Also, only one bathroom, and no central air. The duplex unit in the same building is definitely a better deal, even if it’s not as nicely renovated.

I do like what they did with the kitchen.

  2. I think that’s about 100G too high. Nice pad but if its a typical 20×40 brownstone, a floorthrough apt, once you factor in the space taken up by the stairwell, can’t be more than 700 square feet. That’s alot per square foot for this area (nearly 1000 per).

  3. Shoes would probably go in the bedroom closets. Mops and brooms don’t take up a lot of space and can be stored in the coat closet as well as a vacuum. Extra bath towels could be stored in shelving in the bathroom or again, the bedroom closets. Hell, you can get a nice looking foot trunk and place it at the foot of the bed and store a lot of linens and things in there.

You can fit a lot more stuff in your closet with shelving and good organizing.

  4. Unit #1 (same footprint + backyard + duplexed rec. room) is for sale through Brooklyn Properties at $699,000. I much prefer the look of this unit, but the value is with the parlor floor duplex with outdoor space.

  5. Nice apt. not enough closet space. Which is so typical of lots of apts.

    Serious question:
Where do people, that only have one closet outside the bedroom’s, put their stuff? Vacuum, broom, mop, shoes, coats, extra towels and bed sheets, etc.
