This studio at 96 Schermerhorn Street in Brooklyn Heights is only 505 square feet, but the owners, and architects, have managed to pack in quite a bit of stuff through a system of custom cabinets and sleeping platforms. It’s very attractively done, but it’s hard to imagine someone with a small child electing to make this place their home. After all, having your toddler asleep behind a curtain while you try to watch TV just a few feet away seems suboptimal to us. Seems more likely that this sells to a bachelor who converts the crib alcove into guest crash-pad. The maintenance is $877 and the asking price is $340,000.

Boerum — How much do you think you will need to spend to buy this place? $50? Or don’t you use an attorney or other experts to represent you in the purchase of $1/3 million piece of property?

We spent $2,900 on closing costs, which is typical. But my objection is not that you inflated the figure.

Closing costs are capitalized, added to the basis of the property.

“4,000 in principal payments was completely offset by your lawyer fees (closing costs)”

Equity is offset by capitalized expenses? It’s difficult to have anything resembling an intelligent discussion with someone whose financial acumen is limited to inflows and outflows.

  2. OMG, there is a child already living in that deathtrap… Somebody call ACS! I don’t care how ‘cool/well designed’ this space is – this is an accident waiting to happen (or already did, and that was a reality check that prompted a move).

Children aside – imagine trying to get into that bed while inebriated.

  3. I didn’t think the owner was serious about those Remo Williams steps to loft bed. Then I went through the photos. This has to be illegal. Or is that an understatement?
