Co-op of the Day: 277 Washington Avenue, #6E
Here’s an attractive prewar one-bedroom at 277 Washington Avenue in Clinton Hill. The kitchen build-out definitely encroaches on the spaciousness of the living room, but the overall space, complete with entry foyer, works pretty well. The monthly maintenance is $611, perfectly reasonable for a 700-square-foot apartment. Asking price is $385,000. What think ye? 277 Washington…

It’s a lovely building on a lovely stretch of Washington Ave. Prime Clinton Hill. You could easily spend a lot more and get a lot less.
Does anyone know if there were major changes in construction materials/practices during the war, or did all the cheaper stuff come in after?
At least the breakfast bar doesn’t have a sink in it. So probably easy to remove.

yep. and it’s quite sad who only gets to reside in them now.

“The dream turns to fantasy”?!?! Well, my dream life includes a modest dinning table, not a counter for feeding in my home. But perhaps that’s just me.
Clinton Hill coops are not prewar but the above bldg on washington is.
277 Washington is not one of the Clinton Hill Coop buildings. It is a freestanding coop apartment house. So this might very well be a “prewar” building.

A minor quibble, but I don’t think the Clinton Hill Co-ops are actually pre-war. I believe they were built as housing for navy families during WW II. Of course they aren’t post-war either 🙂
