When the developer of 330 Park Place started butchering the charming house he had just bought back in the fall of 2006, alarmed neighbors wrote in to us about it. Their alarm proved to be justified, as the developer proceeded to lop off the second story of the hundred-year-old house in preparation for stacking four new levels on top of the existing parlor floor. Last year wrote this about the building: “Not only does the building feel more out-of-scale in person than on film, one can also see certain details which reveal the extent of the developer’s slavish devotion to FAR maximization at the expense of proportion, design and neighborliness.” Now the property is on the market as five condo units ranging in price from $695,000 for a 1,087-square-foot duplex to $899,000 for a 1,671-square-foot duplex with garden. Judging from the quality of the kitchen cabinets and the choice of baseboard heating, this conversion isn’t exactly screaming “high end” to us.

call me crazy but it could have been a lot worse. like daveinbed said, no fedders holes, also the FAR was NOT maxed out actually . . . the brick facade while will not win design awards does not stick out like crazy looking stucco or anything.
Like the destruction of Penn Station was the impetus for the Landmarks Preservation law, this abomination should seal the deal on the need to landmark Prospect Heights.
This should be a crime!!
and I am with lincolnlimestone how much effort would it have taken to dust and sweep before taking the pictures.. just yuck!
cwbuecheler- I liked “hojillion”. 🙂
I went and checked it out about a month ago. I thought the maintenance was high(around $500) as it didn’t include the real estate taxes (also high) or heat or hot water. When I asked the agent what exactly your cc’s were going for, she couldn’t say.
The “new” condo building looked very similar to the building on the right, with a front porch. It was one of three similar buildings. It was the Eastern most one. Really ashame. I assume this is now part of the Landmarked district?
why is this the condo of the day?
the good thing is, this is the house that will bring landmarking to Prospect Heights: people who think this is a travesty and a desecration have really pushed hard for landmarking, and now the neighborhood is on the calendar!
They couldn’t even dust the floors before they took photos? That begs the question of what other details have they over looked that you’ll discover weeks after moving in.
