A reader who didn’t like the drubbing that 185 India took when it was under construction wrote in to highlight this second-floor unit that is still up for sale. The listing says that all units in the building have already been sold, but this one looks like it never did. Perhaps thats because the two-bedroom pad began life with an asking price of $860,000. Several price cuts later, the 1,078-square-foot apartment is now asking $579,000. Could be a good deal—if your tastes trend toward ugly architecture.

  1. I agree that the balconey is more useful off of the living room. Living room could have been positioned at the rear though.

However, more importantly, the fugliness of this building and it’s balcony facade is in no way infringing on the beauty of the rest of the block!!!!!!

  2. “out of respect for Nomi, I won’t use the ‘I’ word. hello prospective buyers, do NOT offer more than 475k.”

OMG, have I won you over? Have I charmed you with my irresistible .. . . um, charm? Or are you just mocking me? I’m very gullible.

On the subject of this blog making me laugh (“‘I’ word, ‘I’ word, ‘I’ word), this is awesome: “Could be a good deal—if your tastes trend toward ugly architecture.”

Really, Mr. B, if this is a shift in the way you express your distaste, I’m all for it. No more pussy footing around. No more qualifying phrases. Yay!

  3. this is no where near the BQE – huh? near the pulaski bridge and no where near the toxic problem areas. folks in PS and CG are frequently way closer to the Gowanus mess than Greenpoint folks near the water are to the Greenpoint bad part. also, the pulaski bridge is great to walk over and there’s tons of nice restaurants and bars and shops in LIC and then the nice new piers and playground on the waterfront in LIC too. we bike and walk there all the time from WB. if we lived on India St would surely take advantage of it.

India street is nice – access to all the great restaurants and shops on Manhattan and Franklin and quiet. it’s in the PS 31 zone – school won the National President’s Blue Ribbon Award last year. it is a top top elementary school: http://insideschools.org/index12.php?fs=626&str=31&formtype=name. When there’s some hideous (to me) Victorian heavy wood grandma scary brownstone that i would last about a minute in before running outside for air, i just don’t comment. Perhaps when one knows nothing about this area and when one doesn’t like new condos, then one shouldn’t comment either (just a thought). As this could be a great place for a couple/young family, it sucks that they could be turned off by the comments here from people who aren’t even parents and don’t know the school system.

dave – the problem with balconies in the back, is that it’s so much nicer to have the living room up front and the bedroom in the back (quiet), and balconies off the living room are way more useful and are great when the weather’s nice. just throw open the doors to the living room, and have a pretty nice breeze.

i don’t think that this apt is worth discussing btw. it’s new, clean, looks nice, but why?

  4. “Just yesterday, one of their partners bought one of the brownstones in “Last week’s biggest sales”.

AS I’ve been saying, prices of brooklyn brownstones have bottomed.

I’d rather have a Goldman guy as a neighbor than some homeless people, stevie.

Once again, 11217’s favorite banksters are out there hurting people and making obscene amounts of money in the process. Just yesterday, one of their partners bought one of the brownstones in “Last week’s biggest sales”.

*While Goldman reaps, the rest of the world weeps”
