This isn’t an apartment with grand proportions, but it does have an efficient layout and some prewar details. A one-bedroom on an elevated first floor, it has wood floors, picture rails, a bit of closet space, and reasonable monthly maintenance.

The building, 683 41st Street, was constructed by the Riverview Homes Association and completed in 1924. A plaque on the exterior credits Brooklyn architect Eric O. Holmgren as the designer of the early co-operative developed by the Finnish community. Overlooking the neighborhood’s eponymous park, the apartment house of yellow brick with red brick accents has an elaborate columned entrance topped by loggias on each floor.

The living room benefits from two exposures for a bit of a cross breeze; the photos appear to show courtyard views. The space also has a parquet floor, picture rails, and a ceiling fan. A renovation at some point added a pass-through between the kitchen and living room.

The kitchen, which is next to the apartment entry, has original wood cabinets, although the uppers have had their doors removed. The windowed space has a wood floor. A mix of brown and cream tiles make up the countertop while the backsplash is of white subway tile with a strip of blue accent tiles. There is room for some bar stool seating next to the pass-through. While there isn’t a dishwasher, the listing notes that they are allowed.

On the other end of the apartment, the bedroom has a park view — the building is at the pool end of the park. The compact space, like the living room, has a wood floor, picture rails, and a ceiling fan. There isn’t a closet, but a large one is off the living room and there are two smaller closets in the foyer.

In the windowed bathroom are some period details, including the tub, its hardware, and some subway tile. Instead of a pedestal sink there is a corner unit.

Amenities in the building include free storage, a laundry room with line drying allowed, and a shared garden. The building permits cats but not dogs. Maintenance for this unit is $651 a month.

Meris G Blumstein, Ryan Field, and Casey Lichtman of Corcoran have the listing, and the apartment is priced at $400,000. What do you think?
