Located in an Art Deco building in Ditmas Park, this co-op unit has some appealing vintage styling and a bonus room that could make for a fine home office. Its located on the third floor of 570 Westminster Road.

Originally known as the Westminster Arms, the six-story building dates to circa 1935. There’s a coat of arms emblazoned on the brick piers marking the pathway to the entrance and Art Deco detailing on the exterior, including strong vertical lines of brick and geometric ornamentation at the parapet.

The last few owners have done some renovations on the interior of this unit, but it has retained some of its Art Deco style and the original layout. As expected for a building of this vintage, the rooms are arranged around a foyer. No vintage built-ins here, but there is a closet. Arched doorways lead from the foyer to the living room and kitchen. Most of the wall was removed between the living room and kitchen to open up the space, but the shape of the original arch was mimicked in the enlarged opening.

The living room itself doesn’t have any windows, but gets light from the opened kitchen and the two windows in an adjacent bonus room. Glass French doors would have originally separated the living room and the small room and provided a bit more privacy, but new doors could likely be installed if that is a priority. The room is currently being used as a second bedroom and the video tour shows a bank of storage across one wall.

The kitchen has all white cabinets, open shelf storage, a farmhouse sink, white tile backsplash and butcher block counters. There’s no island separating the living and kitchen areas but the current owners have a wood table cleverly placed to add work and dining space.

The main bedroom is down the hall and is fairly substantial, with windows on two exposures, wood floors and two closets.

There’s another closet just outside the renovated bathroom. The latter has its original peach-colored Art Deco tub; the walls have been updated with white tile and there’s a new vanity with wood cabinet.

The pet-friendly building has a full-time door attendant, live-in super, porters and a children’s playroom. For an extra fee there’s also bike storage and private storage spaces. Maintenance for this unit is $675 a month. The building has commercial storefronts along Newkirk Avenue and tenants include the cafe Milk & Honey.

The apartment last sold in 2016 for $550,000. It’s now on the market asking $585,000, listed by Jan Rosenberg and Erika Sackin of Douglas Elliman.
