The World War II-era housing complex solved a housing shortage for Navy officers and enlisted men and their families. Sited close to the Brooklyn Navy Yard on two properties, known as North Campus and South Campus, the complex of 12 buildings was designed by Harrison, Fouilhoux & Abramovitz and intended to house around 1,200 families.

This unit is located at 345 Clinton Avenue, the South Campus, on the slightly elevated first floor, which explains a quirk of the apartment. Behind the entrance door, a short flight of steps leads to the unit.

The original layout, with its feeling of openness and spaciousness, has been preserved. The living room is open to a dining area and the kitchen, hidden by a partial wall of storage.

Simple white walls meet oak parquet floors, and a bank of three large windows wraps two exposures. The kitchen has simple white Shaker style cupboards and open shelving, white subway tile, wood counters, a capacious pantry and a dishwasher.

A similar look prevails in the bedroom, which is large and has two windows on two exposures. The classic bath has been updated with black and white cement tile on the floor. The unit has four closets total.
