A tin ceiling, arched doorway, and wall moldings bring some charm to this rental, which is a one-bedroom with a bonus space. The unit is in 192 Nelson Street, a 19th century brick row house.
Historic maps show the block front of three-story brick dwellings weren’t yet constructed in 1855 but were in place by 1880. The row sits just down the street from the elevated subway tracks and the Gowanus Canal.
The door into the apartment opens into the living room with the bedroom on one side and kitchen and dining on the other. Walls and trim throughout are white.
The living room has a ceiling fan and French doors into the dining room. Wood floors extend into the dining room, which has a picture rail and tin ceiling. It is open to the kitchen, which is tucked into a windowed nook with a gray tile floor. There are wood cabinets and a subway-tile backsplash. The appliances include a dishwasher.
A floor plan shows another set of French doors separate the living room from the bedroom. In the latter are wall moldings, a picture rail, and two windows. An arched doorway leads to a small room that could work as a home office, nursery, or dressing room. Both spaces have closets.
The photos give just a glimpse of the bathroom but show white subway tile on the walls with a black border and white hex tiles on the floor.
Listed by Nick Gavin and Allie Fraza of Compass, the unit is priced at $3,650 a month. Worth it?
