When the Brownstoner Marketplace launched back in July, we were optimistic but had no idea what to expect. The listing platform’s performance in January, though, was a big inflection point. After attracting buy-in from the likes of Fillmore, Apartmentsandlofts.com, Warren Lewis and Ideal Properties back in the Fall, Brown Harris Stevens and Halstead came on board last month and the section’s pageviews continued their upward trend, topping out at over 400,000 impressions for the month. (Traffic is split pretty evenly between rentals and sales.)
Having the listings in place also allows us to start generating some interesting data on what readers are interested in. Below, for example, is a list of the ten most popular neighborhoods based on the number of times properties were viewed.
1. Park Slope
2. Carroll Gardens
3. Brooklyn Heights
4. Fort Greene
5. Cobble Hill
6. Williamsburg
7. Windsor Terrace
8. Prospect Heights
9. Bedford Stuyvesant
10. Clinton Hill
Thanks to all the firms and brokers who have supported the Marketplace to date. We look forward to continuing to improve the functionality of the platform and to raise the visibility of the properties on it. If you are interested in having your firm set up a direct feed, please send an email to marketplace@brownstoner.com.
Not very nice to mis-spell Carroll Gardens, though. Takes the shine off of being 2nd place!
I like the marketplace. Even though I am not looking, my sister is, and it’s useful to have one place to see what the different brokers are offering. I can do that at Trulia and Streeteasy but sometimes they have too much info (don’t need all the stats) and I’m already on here most times.
I also like to browse the rentals to see the competion.
DeadCatBounce,
A neighborhood’s not making THIS cut may not be a bad thing. “Popularity here is determined by “the number of times properties were viewed” so being off the list might just be an indicator of low turnover rates, resulting in a low supply of houses for sale–a GOOD thing IMO. I suspect this applies to your neighborhood, Crown Heights North, as well as to my own PLG
Points for honesty, Broolklyndreamland. 🙂
I too, for some reason, see blurry pics on the Listings and not on the broker site. And no, none of the brokers put floorplans there but some of the FSBOs do.
You found me out- I am secretly crying because Marine park didn’t make this list. Guilty as charged.
Having said that, I do find it to be annoying to have to click through the marketplace listing to get to the broker’s website, given the blurry pictures and the lack of floorplans. Just my opinion.
Congratulations to Brownstoner. I would imagine many of the hits don’t come from hotd, etc, but from comparison shoppers. Only Mr. B knows the true stats and reference points.
11217, thanks for pointing that out. Yes, unfortunately Marine Park didn’t make the list at all. 🙂
The only time I ever go to the Brownstoner Marketplace is when the link in the Brownstoner posting forces me, and then I go straight to the broker’s own website, which has actual floorplans. The marketplace doesnt seem to add anything of value.
would the bastard child (aka price widget) return?
