Among our most popular listings this week were several properties with quirky histories. A 19th century carriage house turned limousine garage in Clinton Hill got lots of looks as did a Park Slope condo where author Pete Hamill spent some of his Brooklyn childhood. The most popular listing was one that must have stirred the imagination despited the limited information, an 1870s townhouse with few available photos.

The majority of the listings were for houses, but several co-ops and condos were in the mix. Four out of the ten listings were Open House Picks a few weeks ago. Prices ranged between $925,000 to $3.95 million

Which would you choose?

10. This renovated two-family at 288 Leonard Street in Williamsburg has lots of modern touches to match the neighborhood it’s located in. The townhouse is a three-story, with a two-bedroom floor-through apartment over a triplex that includes the cellar. The exterior is newly redone, with wood planking running vertically on the top two floors and horizontally on the basement level.

8. Sited at 435 13th Street in Park Slope, this one-bedroom condo has an unusual claim to fame: Author Pete Hamill lived here for two years in the early 1940s, from the age of six to eight, according to his memoir, A Drinking Life. The book gives the exact address and the location of the apartment (“first floor right”).

7. Here’s a gut renovated 1870s Bed Stuy brownstone that’s not a flip — or doesn’t appear to be at least. If it is, the house — at 231 MacDonough Street, in the Stuyvesant Heights Historic District — is a good bit more attractive and thoughtfully done than average.

5. The next one up is a one-family frame house, on 16th Street in the South Slope, which is brand new to the market. There’s no floor plan, but it appears to be on the small side, with two bedrooms and a full bath on each of the top two floors. There’s an open plan ground floor with an open staircase, a powder room and a washer and dryer.

4. In Sunset Park on 51st Street, there’s a semi-detached three-story brownstone, which the listing describes as “a masterpiece.” Twenty feet wide, the house has an upper duplex, with three bedrooms and three full baths, and a garden rental, which is duplexed with a finished basement. The owner’s duplex has an open plan first floor, with recessed lighting, exposed brick accents, mod light fixtures, a kitchen with an island and copious white cabinetry, and a paneled-glass rear wall leading out to a steel-railed deck.

2. On Chauncey Street in Bushwick we’ve got a two-family with a flat brick facade. This one’s got an owner’s duplex over a 1.5-bedroom garden apartment. The duplex has three bedrooms, with exposed wood beams (and 10-foot ceilings); the master’s got an en suite bath and a walk-in closet. It probably doesn’t need to be said that there’s an open-plan parlor floor, which has a small sun room in the rear that leads to a wraparound deck, and a kitchen with a U-shaped white stone countertop.

1. The listing for this brick townhouse at 179 Wyckoff Street in Boerum Hill isn’t loaded with photos or information, but we can tell you this much: It’s a three-story house, 20 feet wide, with a separate unit on each floor and original wide-plank floors. Built in the 1870s, it is located within the Boerum Hill Historic District and the exterior features a richly decorated cornice. The listing indicates that it needs work, and perhaps not a small amount of it.
