A Benjamin Driesler-Designed Park Slope House and Three More to See, Starting at $1.125 Million

Our picks for open houses to check out this weekend are found in Park Slope, Prospect Lefferts Gardens and Bed Stuy. They range in price from $1.125 million to $3.695 million.

In the Park Slope Historic District not far from Prospect Park, a pale stone row house designed by Benjamin Driesler has a dog-leg stoop, angular bay and metal cornice festooned with wreaths. The 1902 townhouse has a good amount of intact original interior detail — including stained glass, a pier mirror, mantels and woodwork — as well as updated wet rooms and appears to be in move-in condition. Currently a three-family, the property is configured as a single-family. All the living is on the parlor floor, and there are at least four bedrooms in the house, as well as a flexible garden floor that could work as a family area, office, guest quarters or rental.

Also in Park Slope but outside the historic district is a Neo-Grec brownstone with a truly singular topper, a later addition, comprising an oriel window and two mansard roofs. (Here it is in the city’s circa 1940 tax photo.) While the building has quite a few historic details, including tin ceilings, wood floors, moldings and handsome carved marble mantels, it is fairly chopped up to accommodate four units over four stories, and no wet rooms are shown. It’s close to shops on 7th Avenue, and Prospect Park is two blocks away.

In the Prospect Lefferts Historic District, an estate condition brick and limestone row house needs work but has a wealth of original features to restore. Designed in 1899 by architect George Lawton, the house has a two-story rounded bay, dentil molding, an oval cartouche and dog-leg stoop. Although inside are three kitchens, the single-family has a fairly intact floor plan as well as interior details such as woodwork, pocket doors, parquet, a pier mirror and mantel. It’s in the Lefferts Manor section, where all the properties are bound by a one-family covenant.

In Bed Stuy, a limestone row house appears marvelously intact with the original floor plan and details such as fretwork but could use some sprucing. Built as a two-family in the 1890s, the house is set up with a top-floor unit over a duplex. Details include mantels, pocket doors, woodwork and moldings. No bathrooms are shown, but the kitchen in the duplex could use updating. The top floor may not be delivered vacant, according to the listing.
