Of our open house picks from six months ago, one sold and one is in contract, with the other two taken off the market.

The open houses in question were in Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens and Bed Stuy, and ranged in price from expensive to really, really expensive, starting at $1.795 million and topping out at $3.749 million. Interestingly, the least expensive of the bunch is arguably also the nicest.

That’d be a house on Macon Street in Bed Stuy that’s full of distinctive finishes, from a cedar clapboard facade and burnished-copper-mimicking bathroom tiles to copper pendant lighting and a black Bosch fridge in the kitchen and oil-rubbed bronze closet hardware. Thoroughly renovated and modernized, the fetching house has an upper triplex and a garden-level rental. The property sold in March for $1.75 million, $45,000 under its $1.795 million price tag.

On Bergen Street in Boerum Hill we’ve got a 20-foot-wide house set up with a five-bedroom triplex above a garden-level rental. The three interior photos are underwhelming but we spy an original staircase and some exposed brick. The listing’s reference to a “wonderful opportunity to create your dream home” suggests a gut may be in order, even if the whopping price tag doesn’t. Last listed for $3.249 million, the pick was taken off the market in April.

Moving into Carroll Gardens we’re looking at a four-story townhouse on Hoyt Street with a brick and brownstone facade. It’s set up as a three-family with an owner’s duplex on the parlor and garden levels. The duplex has been completely redone, and it’s in top shape. Original detail looks to be in short supply, but there is an attractive marble island and built-ins in the kitchen, as well as exuberantly patterned marble tile in the bath. The third and fourth floors have two-bedroom apartments. The address entered contract in April and was last listed for $3 million.

Last up, a 22-foot-wide wood-frame townhouse on Clifton Place in Bed Stuy. It’s got some original details intact, including mantels, moldings and clawfoot tubs, but needs a total overhaul — a fact that didn’t stop the sellers from asking $1.95 million. The property was taken off the market in January, its price reduced by $151,000 to $1.799 million.
