A single-family Edwardian in the West Midwood micro-neighborhood of Flatbush, 34 Waldorf Court combines original details with a sprinkling of updates, some more recent than others. It appears to be in move-in condition but could probably use tweaks along the lines of updating dated cabinet hardware and bathrooms and restoring painted floors upstairs.

Splendidly syncopated inlaid wood borders on the ground floor, coffered ceiling in the dining room with a proto-Art Deco built-in mantel, wainscoting, and crown molding with fluted trim throughout may well be a draw for this one. It’s also roomy, with five bedrooms, nine closets, 1.5 bathrooms and a porch.

We’ve covered other houses on Waldorf Court before but unlike the others this one is just across the railroad tracks from the Fiske Terrace-Midwood Park Historic District.

The date of construction is unclear from public records, but we know it’s an early 20th century house: Historic maps and records show that Waldorf Court wasn’t in place until about 1901. Later the house shows up in the recently digitized tax photos from 1939-41, which indicate the porch was for a time enclosed.

In the Google map image it looks like the sidewalk — apparently a mix of concrete and bluestone — needs work but you can drive right up onto the lawn to park. The porch roof may also need a bit of attention but the shingles and siding otherwise look proper. In the back, sliding doors open onto a big deck and sizable lawn.

34 Waldorf has been in the same hands since 1973, and now is on the market for $1.475 million. Laura Rozos of Compass has the listing.
