This Queen Anne-style freestanding house in Prospect Lefferts Gardens has a sharply remodeled kitchen while retaining Edwardian details like a Neo-Classical mantel in the dining room with a swag over a glazed tile surround. The exterior of the home, located at 252 Fenimore Street, has a characteristic turret-like bay topped with a conical roof, shake shingles and a wraparound porch with Doric columns. A private driveway with a wooden fence leads to a rear garage that apparently can double as a pool room.

The kitchen is refinished with white cabinets with brass hardware, blond open shelves and a marble counter that wraps around the edge and extends down to the floor. The appliances are stainless steel, and the floors are stained hardwood throughout. Glazed French doors from the eat-in kitchen step down to a brick-paved patio in the rear garden.

The dining room is in a three-sided bay and is pictured in the listing with a piano and built-in hanging shelves. A powder room is under the ground-floor stairs.

The trim in the kitchen has been replaced, but elsewhere it is fluted with corner blocks and wainscoting with rectangular panels, all painted white. The only other exposed wood is the railing of the staircase. The two upper levels have five bedrooms, though there’s only one full bathroom, on the second floor, which is updated with a marble sink with exposed plumbing. The floor has small aqua and greenish off-white tiles.

Upstairs, all three bedrooms on the second floor take advantage of three-sided bays, one of them situated in an oriel on the left side of the house, another behind the turret-like projection facing the front. The third floor has a room inside a dormer that creates an angular alcove.

The second set of stairs in the rear of the house goes from the basement up to the third floor. There’s another bathroom in the basement, as well as a washer and dryer and the mechanicals of the central HVAC.

The house is within the Lefferts Manor National Register Historic District and was constructed in 1896 and designed by Gilbert A. Schellenger. The nomination report classifies the house as “Free Classical Queen Anne” due to its two-story bay with a conical roof and wraparound porch with Doric columns.

Records indicate it last sold in 2013 for $765,000. Now it’s on sale for $1.75 million. Is the price still reasonable?
