You’ll find no shortage of pillars and other neo-Classical details inside and out, fitting for the house’s original owner, the head of the Greek Department at Erasmus Hall High School.

“This large rambling house has a brick ground floor that retains much of its original appearance,” although the wood shingles of the upper floors were replaced by synthetic ones, notes the designation report for the Prospect Park South Historic District.

Take in the pillars, the inlaid floors, the carved woodwork, the elaborate crown moldings, the leaded glass, the mantels. There are nine mantels, stained glass, an oval dining room, a large kitchen with the original butler’s pantry and a library with original built-ins.

The kitchen was updated in the 1980s and is in good condition, according to the broker, Jonathan Mellon of Stribling, who says the current owners have occupied the house since 1969. At least two baths are original, while others have been renovated at various times over the past 60 years.

The second floor holds six bedrooms and three baths, the top floor has four more bedrooms, a full bath and a pair of walk-in cedar closets. There’s a laundry room and a “craft/hobby room” in the basement.

While noting the stunning details in the photos you’ll also observe the porch looks like it could use a new coat of paint. The exterior, roof, and mechanicals may need some attention, according to Mellon.
