Here’s a grand Renaissance Revival limestone on the former Millionaire’s Row, at 901 St. Marks Avenue in Crown Heights. One of a row of six limestones built circa 1910 by prolific architect Axel S. Hedman, it’s in the Crown Heights North Historic District.

There’s plenty here to excite the lover of period detail: stained glass, pocket doors, ceiling medallions, plaster detailing, fireplace mantels, wainscoting, leaded glass cabinetry, parquet floors and moldings.

Condition looks pretty good, but odds are the place could use some some updating. And some refiguring may be in order as well, even for the buyer who wants to keep it as a one-family residence. (Legally it’s a three-family.) As of now, the kitchen is relegated to a small room at the rear of the second floor, which may not be the optimal spot.

There’s plenty of space to play with, though, with a two-story rear extension that extends all the way to the property line. There are 11 rooms on the top three floors, not counting bathrooms, and there’s a lower level — a finished basement, it would seem — with a laundry room, rec room, half bath, etc.

Given the extension, there’s no back yard — there are a few outdoor spaces, though, including a front balcony, a fenced side patio, a small rear patio, and a large deck on the 3rd floor.
