Italianate Brownstone in Bed Stuy and Three More to See This Weekend, Starting at $940K

    by

We’ve got a range of styles and states of repair for you this weekend; two of our picks are in prime shape, one needs an overhaul, and one is move-in ready but could stand some updating. Fronted with brownstone, aluminum and brick, they’re found in Bed Stuy, Bay Ridge and Kensington.

First up, a prewar two-family brick row house with an attached garage on 12th Avenue in Kensington. It’s got a unit on each floor, with two bedrooms below, three above. The lower unit is duplexed with a family room in the “partially finished” basement, which also holds laundry, a full bath and a passageway to the garage. Condition looks decent, though the pictures aren’t extensive; not much detail to speak of, though there are some inlaid parquet floors (also plenty of carpeting).

In Bed Stuy on Monroe Street, we’ve got an Italianate brownstone, twenty feet wide, dating to 1899, according to the listing. The condition here is a mystery, as the photos reveal nothing other than the exterior and a few close-ups of details, including a unique mantel with painted detailing. The listing indicates that some work has been done, but the buyer can count on doing a lot more. There’s detail to be found though, including pocket doors, parquet floors, plaster medallions and marble mantels.

Heading east to Jefferson Avenue we find a three-story with an interesting aluminum-sided facade, which is having its first showing. This one’s been recently renovated, and not by a flipper, with new kitchens and baths, new windows, new floors and central air conditioning. The renovations extend to the roof, which is new, and the newly rebuilt storage shed in the rear. It’s got some charm, with a three-bedroom owner’s duplex on the bottom and a two-bedroom rental above. There’s a front garden, a paved rear patio, and a pair of parking spaces.

The last one is in Bay Ridge, on Mackay Place. A two-block stretch near Owl’s Head Park, the waterfront and the Narrows Botanical Garden. A brick row house, this one is rather small — 1216 square feet all told — but it’s cute, renovated and in fine condition. It’s got your basic single-family layout: living room, dining room and kitchen below, three bedrooms and a single bath above. There’s a finished basement with a second bathroom, a brick patio in front, and a driveway and garage in the rear.
