With three floors of living space, some period details, a private yard and laundry, this Bay Ridge row house offers more than a few amenities to appeal to potential renters.

The early 20th century house at 233 87th Street has an attractive bow-fronted exterior set back from the sidewalk by a small front yard. Stairs lead down to a garden level entrance while the stoop ascends to the main entrance, which has a surround of incised pilasters and foliate details.

Inside, living, dining and kitchen are on the first floor with three bedrooms and a full bath above. The other bathroom in the house does require a trip down to the garden level where there is a rec room, den and large laundry room with sink.

Original interior details include stained glass windows in the bay of the living room, wall moldings, parquet floors and French doors. China cabinets with leaded glass doors are built in on either side of the door to the dining room. The latter also has a coffered ceiling and walls that likely would have originally been ornamented with Lincrusta but still retain a plate shelf.

At the rear of the first floor is the kitchen, whose yellow upper and blue lower cabinets may take their color inspiration from the Swedish flag. There is a dishwasher and a windowed dining nook, although some of the nook space is taken up by the refrigerator.

Upstairs are two large bedrooms and a third that might be sized best for a nursery or home office. All have wood floors and closets. The full bath has walls of marble tile, a vessel sink and a soaking tub.

The rec room downstairs is spacious with a tiled floors and a wall of exposed brick, painted white. There isn’t a photo of the second full bath but the floor plan shows a shower rather than a bath tub.

Access to the rear yard is via a deck off the dining nook or through the laundry room on the garden level. The photo of the yard shows a glimpse of an impressive looking tree house, which was also in place when the house was up for rent in 2019.

Listed as “coming soon” with Joseph Vassallo of Compass, the row house is priced at $4,500 a month. What do you think?
