Demolition of St. George’s Church at the corner of Gold and York Streets in Vinegar Hill began at the end of 2007 but it wasn’t until the middle of last year that construction of the new building, now known as 109 Gold Street, really started to get some momentum. Now the development has finally hit the market. StreetEasy lists three nine units: there’s a studio for $380,000, a one-bedroom for $499,000, and a two-bedroom at $720,000. There are 33 units total. How do the prices strike you, and how much do you think proximity to the Farragut Houses will matter to potential buyers?

  1. Developer of building takes very good care of his other properties and has been in BKLYN for multiple generations. I trust they did a good job at 109.

Subway tile is white hot right now, and neutral bathrooms sell. Think of them as a white box space you can do your own colors in.

Vinegar Hill has over 200 units in the works, so more folks coming.

Some may have been sad to see the vacant water-ruined church go, but many were not sad squatters and crack activity removed by doing so.

  2. I love vinegar Hill. It really is a great neighborhood. Vinegar Hill House is awesome. I work in DUMBO and would really take a good look at this. Pricing looks reasonable. I have been looking in DUMBO and there is not much available at these type of prices. I like the modern look.

  3. The look of DUMBO but with none of the charm!

And yeah, last I checked, the area still is slummish. Walking through the Farragut Projects back in the summer, I can safely say they are a huge eyesore and probably the main reason Vinegar Hill has remained in a sort of post-industrial limbo.

  4. Another totally modern no-personality kitchen and bathroom. The bathroom looks like it could be in a catering hall.

The area is kinda cool, a cute small little desolate street. But not sure I would want to live near Farragut projects, seriously, not the look….

Are they still running the student-run green market at PS 307 (209 York)? It started last fall, wondered if they kept it up this year – anyone know?

Does anyone know anything at all about this area around the NYCHA complex? Perhaps its not important, as we could just fall back on stereotypes…
