Hurricane Sandy ravished NYC

The big news is Hurricane Sandy and the damage she (or is it he? Sandy Koufax and all) caused in the 5 boroughs. Particularly heartbreaking is what happened in Breezy Point – they got lashed by wind, rain, and fire. Over 100 homes burned to the ground. New Jersey also was hit extremely hard. How did you fare? Aigner’s Chocolates

In other news, there’s chocolate. Aigner’s has been making chocolates in Forest Hills for decades and has developed quite the following. They also have a collection of cool chocolate making equipment. Visit them on Metropolitan Ave and have some coffee while you’re there – the serve Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee these days.

Jackson Heights and Sunnyside are great places to live

AmNY talked to some real estate professionals and the named Jackson Heights and Sunnyside as great places for your search for new digs. We think they are pretty sweet neighborhoods, too. Jackson Heights in particular seemed spared by the hurricane for the most part. Sunnyside did sustain some damage (thanks to QNYC fan Heather Laurel for sharing the photos). Still, most of NYC got hit in one way or another. It still doesn’t take away from the fact that these two neighborhoods are pretty terrific places to live.

Astoria CSA loses its home

The Astoria CSA, due to a bureaucratic SNAFU, is losing its home at ARROW. They are devastated but are hopeful to find a new home. They’ll be holding distribution outside the field house but are looking for a new home – their organization serves, in the end, close to 400 people in the community. We wish them luck in finding a new space. If you can help them out, by all means contact them, too.

All those fake hurricane photos

There sure were a lot of fake photos of the hurricane yesterday! A couple even used images from The Day After Tomorrow. Mashable has a collection if them, so check them out.

Good news from the Noguchi Museum

As you may know, the Noguchi in LIC has an outdoor sculpture garden that could have been severely affected by Hurricane Sandy. This image from the museum brought a smile to our faces – they sustained almost no damage to the art.
