The NY Daily News reports that yet another proposed hotel in Queens has raised concern among residents, as the La Quinta Inn chain plans to build on a site at Rockaway Beach Blvd and Beach 44th St in Edgemere, a community located in the Rockaways (GMAP).
Although the owner of the property says the hotel will serve airline crews and travelers seeking cheaper accommodations in New York, residents think it will clash with Edgemere’s residential plan. Queens Borough president Helen Marshall’s office, along with Community Board 14, are investigating whether the hotel will fit into the larger Edgemere Urban Renewal Plan. In the meantime, the property owner hopes to start construction this year and open the hotel by December 2013.
Queens has had, at times, a rocky relationship with hotels in places like Dutch Kills/Long Island City, and most recently in Fresh Meadows.
