The Cliffs at LIC, the largest rock climbing center in New York City, reopened yesterday at 1-11 44th Drive. The 30,000-square-foot athletic warehouse debuted in October and then closed shortly thereafter in November. The Department of Buildings shut down the place because the owner lacked a valid certificate of occupancy. On March 14th the Cliffs wrote this on its Facebook account: “The Dept of Buildings has completed their intensive audit and approved everything, including the paperwork. We’re being told that as soon as the DOB enters our approval into their system, we can open.” And yesterday was the big day! For photos of the interior, which includes climbing walls as high as 60 feet, a gym for cardio and weights and a retail store selling climbing gear, go here.
