The New York Daily News reports that with luxury developments coming to Long Island City and Astoria, doormen are now in high demand in Queens. According to the News, “The ranks of doormen, porters and supers have bulged by 100 in Queens over the past six months alone.” There are currently around 3,500 people working the positions borough wide.
Doormen report that they spend a lot of time giving directions to residents and visitors, along with other typical duties in the building. As one resident of an LIC condo puts it, “The service is just as good as a white glove apartment on Park Avenue.”
