A Gap outlet store is moving into the Jackson Heights Rite Aid at 37-32 82nd Street, between Roosevelt and 37th avenues. DNAinfo reported that the Rite Aid closed on Sunday and the space will be subdivided — Gap will take over two-thirds of the building. The owners of the building haven’t yet announced who will take over the rest of the space. The 82nd Street Partnership guesses that the popular clothing chain will open this fall.
Here’s a few more details from a Jackson Heights Life commenter: “The good news is that The Gap is already working with the Landmarks Preservation Commission on its storefront. No doubt those awful roll-down security gates [for Rite Aid] will be a thing of the past. And if they are spending a good amount on their storefront, perhaps they will keep the store neat and inviting.”
