half a chicken_700

Welcome to the Q’Stoner food feature, Signature Dish! Once a week we check in with Queens restaurants and ask the owners about the all-time favorite dishes they serve. If you know of a dish you’d like to see featured here, please email emily@brownstoner.com.

The Spot: Ltauha, 55-50 Myrtle Avenue, Ridgewood.

The Deal: Ridgewood, Queens, continues to develop its restaurant scene, and Ltauha restaurant will have been at the forefront. Although the restaurant is just over a month old — they opened their doors on April 18 — they have already started developing a loyal clientele.

Ltauha, named after the owner’s mother by reversing her maiden name “Ahualt,” serves a fusion of American and Hispanic cuisines—and a mix of the seasonings. “This way they would always have in mind where they come from,” says Yazmin Antonio.

The Dish: Exemplifying the hybrid of cultures and seasonings is the half a chicken. Not quite a fried chicken and not quite a jerk chicken, Antionio explains that “This dish has a signature of pure mixture of cultural Sazon.” The seasoning mix is often used in Latin America and includes cilantro, garlic and other regional herbs. The dish is served with shitake mushrooms and gnoochi, and therefore combines American and Latin American flavors into one new dish.
