The annual house tour season kicks off in June with the return of the Prospect Lefferts Gardens House & Garden Tour after a four-year hiatus.

The architecturally curious will be able to step inside eight homes on Sunday, June 2 and enjoy “The Lefferts Lounge,” an outdoor space with refreshments, conversation, and music coordinated by PLG Arts. Last year the Lefferts Manor Association hosted a walking tour with a peek inside two houses, but this will be the first full-scale house tour since 2019.

Some of the participating houses this year include a brownstone designed by Axel Hedman with intricate woodwork, a 1920s renovated standalone with a sunroom with leaded-glass windows, and two side-by-side brownstones designed by Benjamin Driesler. The pair offer a chance to compare brownstones that started with the same floor plan but have evolved over time as homeowners renovated.

The Prospect Lefferts Gardens house tour was started by the Prospect Lefferts Gardens Neighborhood Association in 1969 with the express purpose of integrating the neighborhood and countering the block busting that was going on at the time. Their effort was a success and the event, put on by the Lefferts Manor Association, is also now a fundraiser. The history of the house tour was documented in 2018 by local Bob Marvin in the organization’s newsletter, “The Echo.”

Advance tickets for this year’s tour are $30 and are available online. The tour happens rain or shine from noon to 5 p.m. On tour day, tickets will be $35 and available starting at 11:30 a.m. at IX Restaurant at 43 Lincoln Road. (The hidden entrance is behind a fence enclosing a dining patio.)

While details haven’t been announced yet, the annual Park Slope House Tour will also return this spring. Old house enthusiasts will need to be strategic as the date for the Park Slope tour is also Sunday, June 2. The tour focus will be on sustainability with a look at passive houses, solar installations, and green roofs among the highlights.
