Over the weekend Eater updated its Queens Heatmap, a compilation of noteworthy new restaurants that opened recently in the borough. What’s worth checking out? The city recently rebuilt the concession stands at Beach 86th, Beach 97th and Beach 106th Streets in the Rockaways. That means you can once again eat at the seasonal joints Motorboat and the Big Banana, Rockaway Taco, Rippers, Caracas Arepa Bar, and DiCosmo’s Ices. Eater recommends you try out the Neapolitan-style pizza joint Milkflower, which opened in Astoria this June. Milkflower features a menu of salads, crostini, charcuterie plates, and 10 different pizzas made with homemade mozzarella. Also, Thai Rock, the Rockaways restaurant badly damaged by Hurricane Sandy, reopened its spacious back deck (pictured) where they host live music a few times a month. They are still making repairs to the dining room.
