“Revamped Arunee Thai Brings Taste of Manhattan to Queens”
Wow this is a silly headline. Shame on DNA Info, a usually good site. Although the article says the place opened in 1995 in Jackson Heights, I believe it’s older b/c I remember going there in the early nineties when Thai food was rare.
In any event, that headline continues to reinforce the inferiority complex held by many Queens people. Arunee Thai is a Thai restaurant, founded by actual Thai people, that has always called Jackson Heights home. Where the fuck does “a taste of Manhattan” apply to this situation? Becaused they moved to a nicer space? Only Manhattan restaurants have nice decor while all Queens restaurants are holes in the wall? Please. Perhaps this is what you get when transplants cover city news.
