A bee hive in Astoria is going to bee amputated, but the big news here in our opinion, is that the NYPD has a bee expert according to DNAinfo.
“It takes a lot of planning,” said NYPD’s bee expert Anthony Planakis, who will temporarily seal the nest before the main branch is removed. Primary and secondary tree limbs will also have to be cut off.
In other words, this is major surgery. The 20,000 bee residents who once enjoyed swarming the face of a lion statue at 24-21 35th St. are to be evicted.
…after last week’s swarms, Planakis scooped up some of the bees and sent them to a sanctuary in Connecticut.
Apparently, the swarm has been a problem before. There are some days when residents say they can’t even leave their homes. Photos indicate residents may not be exaggerating. Also, how do you “scoop up” bees. Any thoughts?
This is what a bee swarm looks like. The swarm in Astoria looked similar. Looks like a nice comfy ride, right.

Here’s a story about bees swarming a house in Washington DC earlier this week.
