Astoria Tavern opened this weekend at 33-16 23rd Avenue, just off 35th Street. Tastoria Queens checked out the joint and files a positive review: “Admittedly, I’m a total barfly, but for me the sign of a successful bar, tavern or pub is how quickly I am plotting to return. And I’ll have my elbows back up on the bar at Astoria Tavern as soon as humanly possible.” The bar, outfitted with brick walls, wooden beams, and black and white photographs, offers 20 taps and 20 bottles of beer. There’s also a large selection of hard alcohol and a decent selection of wine. They do not plan on serving food but it’s okay to bring it in. According to Tastoria the hours are from 8am to 4am, with a later opening on Sunday. The owner of Astoria Tavern also runs Irish Rover, a pub in the neighborhood.
