The exterior restoration work on one of Park Slope’s most famous addresses, 17 Prospect Park West, appears to be complete. The scaffolding that obscured the property since summer has been removed, and the gorgeous limestone mansion is once again on full display. Contractors are still doing interior work on the house, which the rumor mill said Sarah Jessica Parker bought from Jennifer Connelly and Paul Bettany but which was actually purchased for $8.45 million by Google employees.

How many times has this house changed hands? Could it have been purchased for less than $1M in recent memory? Would’ve, could’ve, should’ve.
Anyone have an idea or a guess at to what it would have looked like inside, originally? Layout and finishes?
If you are in the area to gaze longingly at this house, Montrose Morris was all up in here. In addition to #17, he also designed next door #16, plus the next block, the corner house at 18, next door at 19, and #22. All are limestone Renaissance Revival/Neo-Classical houses, built between 1896-1902. The guy knew how to switch gears to adapt to changing styles. This house, in particular, still shows the old Morris style with his signature use of columned loggias, among other things.

Shortly after she sold the house, Connelly was on Leno or Letterman and said they had to move because it was HAUNTED! Freaked her kids out.
