'The Real World' Opting for Downtown Brooklyn?

Those rumormongers over at the Times are perpetuating the (unconfirmed) gossip that the cast of “Real World: Brooklyn” will live in Downtown’s Belltel Lofts. The article has some excellent man-on-the-street quotes from people who live, work, or play near the building. It’s less safe, I feel, says 19-year-old Bruce Wallace. They could get mugged out here. Wallace notes that the cast’s entertainment options in the area might be limited to stuff like catching a movie or going to Junior’s. (We think this is pretty short-sighted: After all, the Real Worlders would only be about eight blocks from the newish IHOP, and perhaps they’ll get to shop at the new H&M.) An employee of nearby Petland Discounts, meanwhile, has this to say: “Compared to other places they were living, I think this would be a downgrade. A few bars, a few stores, that’s about it. Clubs, they have to go to Manhattan. It’s kind of rough out here. They’ve just got to keep their eyes open and ears open. And a man who works at a religious goods store in the area thinks They’d be jeopardizing their safety. Too many side streets. At least one person sees only good from MTV setting up shop at BellTel: Ronn Torossian, a spokesman for the Bridge Street condo. We think this building will continue to gentrify Brooklyn, and certainly having MTV there will only accelerate that,” says Torossian. “We expect that it will increase property values. StreetEasy shows 17 active listings in the former telephone company building ranging from $517,000 to $1,899,000.

There should be a maximun amount of characters allowed in a post. Who has time to read that crap?
What a ridiculous article. I live at Belltel and I don’t believe that they interviewed anyone who lived. My favorite quote is from the moron at the barbershop.
“Jack Paz, 27, owner of Jack’s Barber Shop, where a cut costs $12, said he did not have time to watch the show. “My wife’s into it,†he said. “She has nothing else to do in her life than sit home and watch TV. Her husband’s working.â€
His wife is going to kick his ass when he gets home.
Anyway, I can understand why most of the people who have businesses here are talking down there own neighborhood. They don’t want the rent to go up. The have a vested interest in keeping it grimy. Maybe Michael Wilson will venture into Belltel next time and talk to some people who actually live here.
Doesnt 10:14 realize no one is going to read that diarrhea? Once again the scroll button conquers manic depressive outbursts!
Wow, you are so creative.
Kind of funny that the first Real World loft was in Soho (1992). Very gritty and real!
The culture of this show is that of a out of control spring break party. Hard to see it working in Downtown Brooklyn.
Perhaps with a recession looming they want to bring the show back to its roots which were a little more “real” and less about partying in the hot tub. I doubt it.
It’ll be funny when an entire camera crew gets mugged
My God, is this dumb show still on? I would tune in only if these brats got middle of the night prank phone calls from The What;)
Since they go everywhere with a camera crew, it would pretty dumb to mug them, since it would be all be caught on tape. (Although usually it’s a member of the Real World cast that ends up getting arrested at some point.) PS: In Paris, they stayed out in some boring suburb and has to travel into the city to party.
