brooklyn_G_girl, nope, “everyone” was not wearing Thor “Summer of Hope.” Not by a longshot. The T’s were given out by Thor to 1,000 students from the High School of Sports Management, who also received free ride ticket courtesy of Astroland. It was part of Thor’s campaign to buy loyalty by giving out freebies to the community.
As for the comment “no one seemed concerned that it was the last day,” wrong again. of course people were smiling and having fun, but didn’t you notice that all day long and all night too, groups gathered in front of the Astroland entrance son Surf and the Boardwalk to take souvenir photos in front of the iconic sign? Did you get into conversations with people and ask how they felt? I did as a volunteer with the group Save Coney Island, which handed out 10,000 “What can you do to help save Coney Island” flyers on Astroland’s last day. People thanked us, ran after us asking for additonal flyers, and vowed to write or phone city officials
dear New Yorkers, don’t be cynical. Just because we didn’t do a protest or a petition like last year, doesn’t mean people don’t care. Fight for your right to Coney!

oh and i forgot to say – I spoke with a few of the vendors of the booths, they were not convinced it was the last year, that they would probably be back next year. We shall see…
I was out in Coney yesterday for the grand finale. It was PACKED – but no one seemed concerned that it was the last day. Even the protest with Rev Billy was quiet other then reporters. Everyone was walking out in “the summer of hope” shirts that were donated by Thor Equities themselves. ugh. i found it sad. Here are some pics.
