When we saw this listing, one word leapt to mind: Obfuscate. Dictionary.com provides three definitions:
    1. to confuse, bewilder, or stupefy.
    2. to make obscure or unclear
    3. to darken.
We continue to be astounded at brokers who refuse to provide the most basic information in a listing. In this case, it’s an address. Clearly, this broker is hoping to trade on the Carroll Gardens name, even though (or perhaps because) this particular building lacks any of the charm that is typically associated with the neighborhood. Maybe it’s all beside the point: Based on the photos of the interior, this two-bedroom condo would look like a rip-off if it were in friggin’ Brooklyn Heights. Next please.

  1. I live one block away, but across the BQE, and no one would claim that that isn’t Carroll Gardens. Usually I’d agree — the whole BoCoCa / Cobble Hill West / Fake-Corcoran-Nabe-Names thing is really laughable… But compared to craigslist rental ads calling avenue C & 14th st. “The Village,” I’d say this is pretty tame.

  2. I live nearby and run past this a few times a week. The backyard and bottom floor are below street level. Sackett has got to be the ugliest street in the whole Columbia Street Waterfront District/WeBQE/CGWest area that has some pretty ugly streets (although I love living there).

  3. That apartment is so unappealing, I’m actually pissed that I wasted the time and energy it took to view the virtual tour to find the exact address for myself.

I agree completely with Mr. B., this is NYC – town of the want it/need it right now mindset. You’d be surprised at the number of alternative options I’ve taken, while passing on another option purely out of annoyance. My motto is and always will be, “why would I give my hard earned money to you when I can take it elsewhere”? That applies to any and every service/prospective-purchase out there.

    Wake up people.

  4. this is also spitting distance from the $782K 1243 sq ft condo mentioned today as just sold – across BQE but still along BQE.
Plus this condo is still PS29 district.
so boring and fedderish as it is -(so use a little imagination – don’t you watch HGTV?-
a bit of private outdoor space and being able to send your kid to PS29 – don’t think they are far off the mark.
