594 dean rendering prospect heights 82014

The Boerum Hill post office’s new home will be located at 594 Dean Street in Prospect Heights, a former warehouse that’s being converted to retail space. The new location, between Carlton and Vanderbilt Avenues, is about a 10-minute walk away from the old one at 542 Atlantic Avenue, according to Postal Service officials quoted in a story in The Brooklyn Paper. We found the above rendering for the new post office on the construction fence; click through the jump to see the building under construction.

The converted building will have 20,712 square feet of commercial space and 4,300 square feet for a community facility, according to alteration permits filed last year.

Post office officials also confirmed the Pratt Station post office will move three blocks away to a new condo building at 609 Myrtle Avenue at Kent Street, as previously reported.

  1. Adelphi Station does currently service 11238, at least in part, as that’s my local office. That said, as Gib mentioned, the Adelphi Station is a long walk for most people in Prospect Heights (If you live closer to Washington/Atlantic/Underhill, not so much so). I’m all for this post office coming to the neighborhood.
