The five-story brownstone at 364 Henry Street at Congress in Cobble Hill may finally be getting the fix it needs, reports Lost City. The arrival of a bulldozer and some workmen heralded the impending structural work on the five-family house. According to one of the workers, the building won’t be torn down, but the long southern wall will have to be entirely replaced. According to the building permit we looked up, DOB green-lighted some initial activity a couple of weeks ago: “Temporary shoring for south wall demo, installation of grade beam to support new exterior block wall to be detailed and erected later by others.”

That’s odd because I was in a foreclosed house the other day with that yellow square with the x through it — the agent was showing it to me — and it did have problems but nothing appeared to rise to the level of “unsafe to occupy.”
Much of the plumbing had been ripped out of the walls, but that appeared to have been done by vandals who appeared to have arrived well after the place was emptied and the yellow square appeared.
I suppose the house could have had a gas leak. That’s the only thing I can think of.
in an unrelated story, about 30 cats are currently shopping around the cobble hill area looking for a new home.
I think it means “no floor” (or not enough floor to stand on without falling through!)
mopar, yes you are correct.
Anybody know: What does the yellow square with the x through it mean? Is this a DOB sign that a building has been evacuated for structural reasons and is unsafe to occupy?
I wouldn’t expect anything more than repairs equivalent to a band-aid here. That sidewalk shed has been there for more than a year and from what I can tell, the shoring was likely a direct order after bricks started to fall (again). Mr. Q hasn’t shown much interest in this property since he acquired it….
