The fact that they were renters didn’t deter this creative couple from making changes to their 650-square-foot Clinton Hill apartment.

Since moving into their home three years ago, Rachel Jones, a fashion designer, and Adam Jones, a photographer and video producer, have continually rethought their space, paring down choice possessions and making improvements where they could, according to a recent story in Apartment Therapy.

The duo painted the home’s Victorian claw foot tub to make it look more polished and, after a little trial and error with some white paint and paint stripper, they whitewashed the brick chimney breast in the bedroom. A nook in the home’s wee kitchen is enlivened with chalkboard paint.

They also filled the apartment with just a few treasures, including an Art Deco armoire and antique bar table found at flea markets in Brooklyn.

A built-in wooden bench in the living room creates extra seating and a handy vantage point for watching people bustle past on the sidewalk outside.

The living room’s yellow velvet chair and wooden crates were also found at local flea markets.

Dark walls like this — especially in a kitchen — can be controversial, but here it adds a nice contrast to the bright and sunny spaces elsewhere in the home.

It’s not a large apartment, but the couple’s conscious strategy of owning fewer knick-knacks and pieces of furniture help make the space feel larger.
