NY1 reported yesterday that the State Board for Historic Preservation designated a Wallabout historic district. The Myrtle Avenue Revitalization Project’s Michael Blaise-Backer noted that the designation provides tax incentives for preservation. The LPC is separately considering a Wallabout Historic District.

  1. “oh let’s just landmark ALL of nyc and get it done with. price everyone the fuck out”

*rob*, there are landmarked streets in the ghettos of brooklyn. Not everyone is priced out. Just seems that way when one is sleeping in an expensive nabe.

  2. Rob — I don’t go in the Open Thread anymore… so I don’t know if anyone mentioned it. You have seen the “Poo Mist” video that Japan made to teach children about nuclear radiation, right?

  3. The 20% rehab tax incentive isn’t all that bad, and some properties can get a 10% incentive too.

Is this the end all be all tax incentive? No, but unless you’re intent on building a derelict high rise (which this area has on Washington, alongside many smaller condos that sit mostly vacant) then please, be my guest and build away.

  4. Blayze… Why do you think folks “never do their homework”? I think it’s quite clear what the designation does, thus my comment above.

Some just think that the restrictions/prohibition model is flawed for homes.

  5. If any of you would like to live in Wallabout, please be my guest. It’s hardly a super-gentrified paradise and the schlep to the G is just so lovely in this weather.

I’m happy it’s a district. Some of the oldest buildings in the city are there, predating the civil war.

  6. oh let’s just landmark ALL of nyc and get it done with. price everyone the fuck out so everyone can live their quaint little life and sniff each other’s fart from here to eternity. barf.
